<div id="subtitle">Mich. adult education student freed after pleading no contest to threatening to burn teacher</div><div><p>An adult education student in a Detroit suburb has pleaded no contest to threatening to burn his English teacher as a witch and been sentenced to time served in jail.</p><p>Ferndale District Judge Joseph Longo ruled Thursday that 20-year-old Darin Najor (NAY'-jur) was competent to stand trial on a charge of assault and battery in the September incident. Najor then pleaded no-contest to the charge and was sentenced.</p><p>Police say Najor poured a nonflammable liquid over his teacher, who had assigned Arthur Miller's 1953 play "The Crucible" to the class at Taft Education Center in Ferndale. The play is based on the 1692 witch trials in Salem, Mass.</p><p>A message seeking comment left for defense lawyer Robyn Frankel was not immediately returned.</p><img src="http://admatch-syndication.mochila.com/images/ad.gif?aid=44247243&bid=informcom" /></div><div id="copyright"><div>
